State Government bungle pre-Christmas road closure

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The lack of warning signs advising residents about the current closure of Colleges Crossing is nothing short of ridiculous and is just not good enough.

SEQWater have confirmed water is being released from Wivenhoe Dam at a rate of 30,000 megalitres a day and is likely to continue 'over a number of days'.

This would not have been a spur of the moment decision.  Residents should have been informed that Colleges Crossing would be closed. This is the third time in as many months that Colleges Crossing has been closed.  It is no longer acceptable for residents not to be given prior warning and have diversion signs in place.

Residents are fed up. Three local property owners have put their homes up for sale after the last closure out of sheer frustration at the unacceptable situation

There may be a 'water over the road' sign at the entrance to Colleges Crossing but residents have been left "high and dry" when it comes to prior warning and adequate signage.

Diversion signs need to be prominently displayed at strategic locations (such as Moggill Road/Mt Crosby Road) notifying motorists of closures, allowing them to plan an alternate route.

The lack of warning signs has caused complete chaos and residents deserve better.

Main Roads can no longer continue to ignore this vital access road which carries some 10,000 cars per day. What other busy arterial road in Brisbane carrying 10,000 cars per day would be considered a 'quiet rural road'?

Mt Crosby Road at Colleges Crossing is in desperate need of an upgrade and has remained untouched by the Department of Main Roads for years.

Despite this area having two primary schools, there is no safe pedestrian or cycle crossing at the location and I again call on the government to provide safe access.
