Register your swimming pool – fines apply after 4th November

Homeowners have until 4th November to register their pool to avoid a fine of up to $2000.
Unfortunately, more Australian youngsters under five die from pool drowning than from any other accidental cause, and with our outdoor lifestyle Queensland children are particularly at risk.In order to help develop future pool safety programs and a pool safety inspection system, the State government last year established a pool register that will provide residents, local governments, pool safety inspectors, and the Pool Safety Council with a central source of information about regulated pools.Local councils have already been providing information to the register but all pool owners are required to ensure that their pool is registered and all their details are accurate.
The government originally intended for details on the pool register to be required by May this year, but due to the devastation caused by the January floods and Cyclone Yasi, the deadline was extended until the 4th November 2011.
After that date, any pool owners who have not registered their pool face on-the-spot fines of $200 or a maximum court penalty of $2000.To ensure your pool is registered visit www.dlgp.qld.gov.au/poolsafety or phone 1800 340 634.
