Uncertain future of Kenmore Fire Station
Wednesday, 11 January 2012 12:34
I received a reply from Police Minister Neil Roberts that the now closed Kenmore Fire Station is surplus to the needs of his department and will be offered for sale. Click here to read the Minister's letter.
Interestingly, he indicates that first refusal will be given to the Brisbane City Council.
However, one unexplained statement of significance is that he indicates that the Department of Main Roads have expressed an interest in the property and its sale will be put on hold whilst they consider whether they wish to take over the property.I have written to the Main Roads Minister, Craig Wallace, although given the fact that Parliament is unlikely to return in 2012 we may not necessarily hold our breath waiting for a response as to what their interest may be in the property.
I know that Main Roads have previously looked at a tidal flow system where Moggill Road approaching the roundabout becomes one way outbound and Cedarleigh Road becomes one way inbound to Brisbane. However, it was my understanding that the Government had previously dismissed this proposal as too difficult. So I am not sure if this represents a reactivation of interest in it.
