MORE INFORMATION EMERGES ON LOCAL AMBULANCE STATION

Written submission should be sent to:- Chris Rivers, Housing & Property Portfolio, Project Services, GPO Box 2906, Brisbane, Qld 4001.Government will accept written submissions on new ambulance station up until Wednesday the 8th September 2010.
Even though the land was acquired over a year ago the design has been done and the technical and environmental studies have been done the government has now decided to accept submissions from interested parties over the short period to the 8th September!
After I expressed in a speech to Parliament my concern about the choosing of the site for our area’s new local ambulance station (to read my speech click here) and submitted a Right to Information request for the planning process used to determinie the site the government released a CD containing information about the site.
Given that once the station is constructed it is likely to be there for the next 50 years getting the location right is critically important. The 80 pages of information released revealed the following:-
· Parties supposedly interested and consulted in the redevelopment include Brisbane City Council, local representatives Councillor Margaret de Wit and Dr Bruce Flegg and public consultation including the Pinjarra Hills community (no such consultation took place).
· Following the sale of a site by the department on Moggill Road at Moggill, the site at Pinjarra Hills was quietly acquired on the 22nd April 2009
.· Technical reports such as soil testing were completed over twelve months ago
.· The stated purpose of building the station is to improve response times to “Bellbowrie and surrounding suburbs”.
This statement brings further into question how the government arrived at the determination that Vyner Street at Pinjarra Hills would be the best place to service ambulance emergencies in “Bellbowrie and surrounding suburbs”.
Local residents wishing to make a submission on any aspect of this proposal should do so by the deadline of Wednesday 8th September.
