Bellbowrie flood shows need to move proposed ambulance station

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The government is asking for comment in relation to the proposed Pinjarra Hills ambulance station.  Readers will know that I have fought long and hard to get an additional ambulance station in the area as a result of appallingly slow emergency response times.

If the government are seriously listening to the lessons of the Brisbane flood and planning for future possible natural disasters they should surely reconsider this decision and construct the ambulance station in the population centre of Moggill and Bellbowrie.  The government has attempted to sell an ambulance site on Moggill Road at Moggill preferring a site on Vyner Street at Pinjarra Hills.

Recent experience has made it even more abundantly clear that these services should be co-located with the population density and ensure that they can be utilised in future emergencies where Moggill Road might also expect to be closed.

I also have a lingering concern that an ambulance station situated in Pinjarra Hills may be used as an excuse by future governments to close the ambulance station in Kenmore although for the time being I have been given an assurance that this is not the case.

As the government has asked for further comment I have submitted that the new ambulance station in the area should be in proximity to the population centre in Moggill and Bellbowrie.  This would also enable better service to areas such as Anstead, Pullenvale and Pinjarra Hills as ambulances are frequently not at the station but on jobs either going to or from Brisbane.  To read my submission click here.

Public consultation submissions must be received on or before 3 June 2011 clearly marked as "Designation for Pinjarra Hills Ambulance Station" addressed to Town Planning Unit, Project Services, GPO Box 2906, Brisbane Qld 4001
