Time for State Government to plan public transport

The Brisbane City Council’s desperately needed road link between the Toowong Roundabout and the Inner City Bypass (Northern Link) is proceeding and work is expected to start shortly.
This transport infrastructure could not only cut travelling times for the choked traffic currently using the Western Freeway, but could potentially give an enormous boost to the number of people who leave the car behind and catch public transport.
Areas such as Chapel Hill could potentially be only minutes from the city using the new tunnel. With theskyrocketing costs of parking and intense traffic congestion around Brisbane’s CBD a fast, convenient, and efficient service could see many more people utilizing public transport.
However, these benefits will not materialize unless the State Government provides the extra services through Translink.
Local residents are not always aware that additional bus services are the responsibility of the State Government.
I have written to Transport Minister, Rachel Nolan asking that they immediately release their considerations in relation to public transport and consult our local community about the way that services could best be provided. Click here to view this correspondence.
