Call to support Western Suburbs Junior Sport
Friday, 24 April 2009 15:32
Akuna Oval at Chapel Hill plays host to 2,000 young footy players every weekend (AFL and Rugby).
However, without State Government support its use by our young players is about to be curtailed due to the dangerous deterioration of aged lighting.
Whilst Brisbane City Council offered $150,000 to help maintain this valuable junior sport an application to the State Government was rejected.
There is no need to tell local families just how important it is to engage young boys and girls in physical activity and teamwork.
I am appealing to the new Sports Minister, Phil Reeves to reverse the decision and come to western Brisbane and see first hand how important this is.
