Queensland biggest ever charity fundraiser!

The ride to Conquer Cancer in support of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research was an outstanding success! Around 2000 riders each raising a minimum of $2500 rode their bikes 240km over-nighting on the ground at Somerset dam and returning to the University of Queensland finishing line.
The ride raised over $4.7 million. This made it the largest charity fundraising from a single event ever held in Queensland.
I found it a wonderful experience to participate in supporting such a great Queensland medical research effort.
Riders ranged from former Olympians to people who had virtually never ridden a bike before!
The sort of people who participated included a team ‘Breast Friends for a Cure’. This was a group of 5 riders, 4 of whom were courageous young women aged between 32 and 39 who had recently survived breast cancer. Some have had their chemotherapy and radiotherapy only recently. They began some bike training earlier in the year.
There was a terrific passion about many of the participants making it quite an exciting and moving experience.
Thank you to any readers who donated, and for those that did not and would like to it is still possible to do so by clicking here.
