Merlin Terrace Study obtained under FOI

Following a tragic fatal accident on the corner of Moggill Road and Merlin Terrace over a year ago Main Roads studied the intersection and recommended that right turns both into and out of Merlin Terrace be banned.
Unfortunately their report was not released publically and I was only able to obtain it under Freedom of Information.Local residents should have such information about their own community. I struggle to understand why such reports are not public.
In this case it may be that these measures are necessary to make the intersection safe but it does have an impact on local residents and businesses who should be informed and consulted.
It should not be necessary to conceal this sort of information from local communities.
The other concern I have is that in response to my inquiries of the Department of Main Roads they have indicated that there is no funding for such works and it may take another 18 months to obtain such funding.
These are minor works and it seems crazy that if it has been identified as needed to make residents and motorists safer that the government cannot move to do the minor works quickly. To read the Main Road’s safety report click here
