Minor accident at Chapel Hill Road causes complete chaos
Tuesday, 13 July 2010 17:13
A minor accident at Chapel Hill Rd, Chapel Hill brought the western suburbs to a complete standstill earlier today.
Late this afternoon all suburbs west of Kenmore were severed by the only access road to Brisbane. This is totally unacceptable.
It is a disgrace that at 3.30pm in the afternoon motorists are forced to endure such chaos inbound as a result of a minor accident. Main Roads need to take responsibility for its hopelessly inadequate response to the situation. This inadequate response highlights the fact that there has been no road or public transport infrastructure built for decades and currently none is planned. Moggill Road, our only access road to Brisbane is busy and stressful enough at this time of day with parents driving to pick their children up from school.
It is a real problem when a relatively minor ‘nose-to-tail’ accident can cause the whole of the western suburbs to shut down.
Traffic trickled through at a snail’s pace for hours.
How much longer can residents of the western suburbs be expected to put up with such appalling road conditions?
It is just not good enough. The Government cannot continue to ignore the fact that Moggill Road is their road, it is their problem and they need to fix it and they need to fix it now.
The Government’s promised response to Stage 3 of the Kenmore Bypass Study has been delayed and we are still awaiting the outcome,. I joined hundreds of fellow local residents stuck in this unacceptable traffic jam today..
