Colleges Crossing need for safe Pedestrian and Cycle Path
Tuesday, 02 December 2008 14:17
The absence of a safe pedestrian and cycle path along the road at Colleges Crossing is a significant problem and I have written to the Department of Main Roads to consider an action to remedy it.
Pedestrians and cyclists currently have to mingle with the traffic flow at the crossing. This is not conducive or safe for people to walk or cycle.
Mount Crosby State School report that children living on the other side of the Brisbane River who attend the school are unsafe using any active means of transport and therefore need to be driven to school.
In this day and age particularly on busy state controlled roads such as Mt Crosby Road the need to think about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists and the availability of an appropriate pathway is important. I
hope that the Main Roads Department will take on board the suggestion that there is a need to upgrade Colleges Crossing particularly to keep pedestrians and cyclists safe and improve the functionality of the crossing for anyone using these means of active transport.
I have written to the Department of Main Roads to request this situation be examined.
