Birkin Road lights

Residents of the Moggill/Bellbowrie area will shortly receive a flyer calling for community consultation on the installation of lights and a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Moggill Road and Birkin Road Bellbowrie.
Community consultation will occur up until the cut-off date of the 28th February 2010.Local residents will be aware that I have conducted a 6 year campaign to have a pedestrian crossing that can be used with the bus stop on Moggill Road. This has already been the site of one fatality. In addition the intersection of Birkin Road and Moggill Road has had at least 6 major reported car accidents.
I am delighted that finally we are getting some action on this long running and unacceptable situation. A few residents have commented to me that the pedestrian crossing at this intersection is not the ideal place to service the bus stop. I take their point but it appears given the dual purpose of signalising the intersection because of its accident record and providing a safer signalised pedestrian crossing that this is to be the outcome.
I think this is a very important outcome for the residents of Bellbowrie and their safety.
