Main Roads reject call for pedestrian safety fence at Moggill Road Kenmore Road intersection

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

A number of local residents and parents have contacted me concerned that the removal of a fence from this intersection near OLR School would potentially increase safety concerns.

Following the removal of the existing fence there is now no fencing that would stop a child inadvertently stepping onto the road nor any retaining guardrail that would stop a vehicle that is involved in an accident or loses control mounting the footpath.

Interestingly and frustratingly the Department of Transport and Main Roads last year insisted there had never been a fence.

Despite the Government’s decision not to do anything on this occasion I continue to have concerns about the safety at this intersection and numerous residents contact me particularly in relation to the difficulties of cars coming up into Kenmore on Moggill Road dealing with the traffic out of Kenmore Road and traffic that tries to get across from Kenmore Road into Merlin Terrace.

In my view this intersection remains an area of safety concern.
